Juvenile/Adult Crime Stats Sheet - Year 2006 to Year 2005 Comparison |
During calendar year 2006, 308 juvenile delinquency cases were presented to the Morgan Superior Court No. 2 for disposition [an
increase from 259 cases in 2006]. Of these 308 cases, 233 cases were resolved through formal juvenile court proceedings and disposition, and 74 cases were resolved by informal adjustment through the Morgan County Probation Department.In comparing adult criminal cases filed in all of the Morgan Circuit and Superior Courts in 2006 with the juvenile delinquency cases filed with Superior Court No. 2 in 2006, the following information is noteworthy:
Secure Juvenile Detention Costs
The per diem costs to Morgan County of placing juvenile delinquent offenders in secure detention facilities
decreased in 2006, as compared to 2005. According to the weekly detention statistics maintained by the Morgan Superior Court No. 2, the total costs of secure detention of juvenile delinquent offenders in year 2006 was approximately $164,900.00 (average cost: $3111.00 per week). By comparison, the total costs of secure detention of juvenile delinquent offenders in year 2005 was approximately $175,990.00 (average cost: $3384.00 per week).Chart - 2006 Juvenile Detention Weekly Cost

In 2006, 5 juvenile delinquency cases filed with the Morgan Superior Court No. 2 were waived to adult criminal court for disposition (an
increase from 2 cases waived in 2005) under the waiver of jurisdiction provisions of the Indiana Juvenile Code.|

In many instances, a male or female juvenile offender committed to the I.D.O.C., was committed under several pending cases. In actuality, eleven (11) juvenile males were committed to the I.D.O.C. in 2006 [increase from 3 in year 2005], and two (2) juvenile females were committed to the I.D.O.C. in 2006 [increase from 1 in year 2005].
The following tables provide a comparison of the types and severity of juvenile crime committed in Morgan County in 2006, as compared to the adult criminal offenders during that same year.
