Our One Minute Math Master:
Tori
Happy New Year. I hope your Christmas
Break was fantastic. Thank you for the wonderful Christmas gifts.
I really appreciate all your kindness. Our gift exchange gifts for the
shelter were also fantastic. They were sent to a family which has
six children. Their baskets would not have included any toys had
it not been for your generosity.
Our second semester began on Wednesday.
The pace of work does tend to increase this semester If you notice
an increase in homework, that might be the reason. If your student
is having an excessive amount of homework, please feel free to contact
me. We may need to examine how efficiently they are using their class
time. My goal is to push them a little harder this semester, without
overwhelming them. This is to help prepare them for their move next
year into middle school.

Curriculum:
Math This week will be division of whole numbers, division
of double digit numbers, and division of decimals.
Spelling The words this week are homophones which are words that sound the same, but have different spellings and meanings.
Language We are studying explanatory writing by writing directions to something which we can do really well. In addition to writing this, we will also be giving a speech about our writing.
Reading In Reading, we are studying author’s purpose and point of view and sequencing events. We have started a new novel entitled Grasshopper Summer.
Social Studies In Social Studies we are looking at the founding of our independent country and the writing of the Constitution.
Health In Health we are learning about medication use, abuse, and illegal
drugs.
In case you haven’t heard, our axolotyls have
laid eggs last week. This is new ground for us. We are working
with Indiana University and hoping that we hatch baby axolotyls in about
thirty days.
