Ancient
China

Chinese written language began as pictographs. One of our projects will be to write using Chinese characters. Chinese characters are not written with pencil as our are. They are painted with a brush and ink. The direction of the strokes and the width of each part of the stroke is as important as each part of the character.

These diagrams illustrate
the characters and the
brush strokes used to
make them.
