Mr. Yount
Room #8

After European nations explored and colonized other parts of the world, they wanted to control all aspects of life in these parts of the world. These powerful European nations wanted to control the economic, political, and cultural aspects of the areas they settled or captured. They needed the natural resources of these areas for their factories. They needed the wealth of these areas for their military. If they controlled the cultural lives of the people they could keep the people from seeking independence. European nations began to believe that in order to remain powerful they needed to rule more and more land. Eventually nations began to argue over land and resources. This led to the great wars of the Twentieth Century. The diagram below may help show how Exploration, Imperialism, and the Industrial Revolution are connected in cause and effect relationships.
