Dads'n Donuts a Success

On Thursday morning, October 17th Hall held its annual Dads and Donuts.  This time is set aside for dads or other special people like grandfathers or uncles to come to the school to spend time with the children.  Donuts, coffee, juice, and milk are served.  We want to thank the Hall PTO for sponsoring this annual event.  As you can see from the pictures below, plenty of donuts were served and both children and their fathers went away satisfied.

Trash Bag Conovocation

Many prizes and ice cream treats were awarded on October 31st to students who excelled in their trash bag sales.  First place winners, Carly Gemmecke, Lori Nichols and Rachelle Dorsett were awarded televisions, second place winners  Kyle Sigler, Jacob Sager and Nick Houk received boom boxes and third prize winners Dakota Speck, Austin Rhea  and Megan Greatbatch received CD players.  All students who sold 10 rolls of trash bags received an ice cream treat at lunch and names were drawn at the convo for many prizes for those who sold trash bags.  Many thanks to the students who participated in this annual fund-raising event.

Opening Day Convocation
Hall Elementary students began the school year with a convocation in the gym.  The purpose of the assembly was to introduce the entire staff to the student body and to set in place the expected procedures for the students.  Procedures were reviewed for such things as hallway conduct, behavior at convocations, and lunchroom rules.

The convocation concluded with a Learner's Pledge which was recited by the students.  It is listed below.

                                                    The Learner's Pledge
I believe in myself and my ability to do my best at all times,
Because I am responsible for my life and for all of my actions:
I will listen, I will see, I will speak, I will feel,
I will think, I will reason, I will read, I will write.
I will do all these things with one purpose in mind:
To do my best and not to waste this day,
for this day will come no more.

Some of 2001-02 News Topics

Reading Olympics

Students at Hall were recently involved in a school wide reading incentive based on the Winter Olympics.  The goal was for each student to read 20 hours during the month of February.  As each four hour sheet was finished, the student received a small prize.  Students who read the 20 hour goal received a certificate, along with a 12 inch piece of duct tape, which they used to attach Mrs. Berlin, our principal, to the cafeteria wall at our "closing ceremonies" on March 1.  She agreed to do this in hopes that the students will "stick with reading" for the rest of the year.

New Security System

Effective January 7th, the front doors at Hall Elementary will be locked during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3: p.m.   A doorbell located on the left side of the entrance needs to be rung during the above hours to gain access to the building.  If we do not recognize you, please identify yourself and who you are here to see.  Thank you for helping us keep your children safe while they are in our care.
