March 7-11
Math: We are starting the chapter on exponents on
Monday. We will be covering pages 292 through 307 by
Friday. Students may need additional help on this because they
did not do exponents last year.
Reading: We are continuing to read our novel, Running Out of
Time. We will cover chapters 15-25 this week and will hopefully
finish the book up on Friday.
Social Studies: We will cover the beginning of the Civil War, including
disadvantages and advantages of the North and the South. Students
will also be creating a Civil War map in which they will locate the
important battles of the war. On March 9, as a
special treat, we will be spending the afternoon with Civil War
re-enactors. More information about this is included on a
separate sheet. Students have been presenting their February country
reports this week. We also went to the computer lab to begin our
new country reports for March.
Health: We will finish chapter four covering diseases and we will
be taking the test over the chapter on Tuesday. We got a little behind
last week with the Social Studies country reports.
The next chapter is on legal and illegal drugs.
English: We are writing our essay entitled, "What a Good Citizen
Means to Me" The final copies are due this week. We will be
selecting one per class to be judged by teachers in this
building. The winning essay will be sent in for a county wide
contest. The winner receives a $100 savings bond. Those
essays go on to state level where the winner receives a $1000 savings
bond and four runner ups receive $500 bonds.
Teachers Note: End of the grading period is next Friday. Report
cards come out the following week. Students will receive a Health grade
this nine weeks instead of a science grade.
