Mrs. Robinson's Fifth Grade
Room #2

Welcome to my classroom webpage.  I hope that you will find it useful for both
students and their parents. I try to update it regularly, so keep checking back for
                new information.

Social Studies

Students are learning about the  Civil War for the next few weeks.  On March 9,
students will be given a demonstration of the Civil War times by re-enactors.  The
following week they will be going to Clowes Hall to see a play about the Civil War.

Reading
We use the Accelerated Reader program to check comprehension and reading abilities in the fifth grade.  Each student in my class will be expected to take and pass tests for part of their reading grade. ( An A is worth at  20-25points each grading period).  These tests cover almost 3000 titles of novels available in libraries, as well as some .5 pt. tests that cover stories from our classroom basal reading book. Tests are available to take on all five of my computers, as well as in the library and computer lab.

Each nine weeks students in my class who have earned 30 points or more, (for that grading period,) will be given the opportunity for an "outside" lunch in our classroom. We usually ask for a parent volunteer to pick up Subway, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Arby's or Taco Bell.  The students enjoy the time eating in the classroom with their friends and getting a chance at a lunch that they normally wouldn't get to have.

A list of Accelerated Reader books is now available.  There are 2999 tests so the download will be slow, but be patient.

Math Challenge

As of  October 1, the school will begin the Math Challenge in each classroom.  Once a week, Mrs. Berlin will come to the room to deliver the math time tests.  Any student who successfully completes the math challenge in two minutes or less  receives a fifth grade math pin. Those who successfully complete it in one minute or less receive a beautiful green Monrovia sweatshirt with their name embroidered on it.  Those students who met the one minute challenge last year will not receive a second shirt, but will instead compete for the title of fastest in the school!
